Band Clubs
Pop into a local band club such as this one to mingle with locals by day or night. Offer a drink and start off a conversation to get the colourful and proud history of such a band club. If you are lucky, you will also get a tour of the richly adorned formal rooms upstairs.
The Sliema Philharmonic Society (Socjeta Filarmonika Sliema) was founded in 1923 and immediately began a successful road in playing band music not only during the village festa dedicated to Sacro Cuor (Sacred Heart) but also as a guest band at other village festas such as that of St Julians in those early days, and other occasions. Its success was further recognised by the winning of several competitions, and even invitations to visits abroad.
The history of the society includes several important milestones, and with great pride saw the Society's President, Dr. Vincent Tabone, elected President of Malta.
Having established a firm reputation over nearly 90 years, today the Sliema Philarmonic Society remains on the forefront of local and international events while continuing to please its local patron with firm dedication. Its members are also responsible for beautifully decorating the streets with hand-made decorations on the occasion of the festa, the climax of a year's activities.
