Leisure and Activities
The Malta National Aquarium is the newest tourist attraction to hit the Maltese islands and one of the largest and ambitious projects to date. Visit the wonderful underground aquariums to get an insight into the Mediterranean sea-life and beyond.
The Malta National Aquarium opened its doors in Summer 2013. This is a very welcome and great attraction to the St Paul's Bay area that comprises the popular tourist resorts of Bugibba and Qawra. The sizeable project includes a public aquarium, a public garden, a multi storey car park, facilities for dive schools, dining facilities, a beach club (Cafe del Mar Malta), merchandise outlet and an information kiosk.
The Malta National Aquarium has 26 display tanks with mainly Mediterranean fish such as grouper, sea bream, sea bass, Mediterranean rays, and octopus. The tanks also have artificial replicas of historical artefacts found around the Maltese shores. The main tank is home to tropical fish species from the Indian Ocean including the black tip shark that visitors are be able to admire closely through a water walkthrough tunnel. An interactive touch pool is also available where children are guided on how to handle urchins, starfish and crabs as they are taught about the sea creatures' nutritional habits.
All in all, a great family attraction!
Admission tickets: 0-4 years free / 5-12 years €6.00 / 13+ years €12.90
