Palazzo Parisio is a splendid stately home immersed in history and an architectural gem with unique luxurious interior finishings. Standing in the heart of the ancient village of Naxxar, it should be added to any visitor's itinerary as it showcases an era that is often left out of Malta's history. Not the Romans nor the Knights of Malta - but the life and times of a highly successful Maltese entrepreneur, pillar of the establishment, merchant banker, brewer and philanthropist.
Described as a miniature Versailles, Palazzo Parisio's significance as a cultural contribution to the Malta's heritage is overwhelming. Every room or hall, each landing and corridor, the ornate gilded and mirrored ballroom, the music room, the lavishly decorated ceilings, murals and frescoes, fine stucco work and every painting and chandelier - even the marble of the grand staircase - bears tribute to one man's original inspirations and aspirations, and to the generations that followed.
The magnificent walled Gardens rank amongst the finest in Malta, half a mile long and the only privately owned gardens open to the public. Classically baroque in style, they are a charming mixture of Italian symmetry and Mediterranean colour and perfume.
