Dining here is sharing Ramona's life-long passion of running a top-notch restaurant. The romantic candlelit Wednesdays are unmissable...
Palazzo Preca is the fulfilment of a dream for Ramona, a bubbly young chef who was literally brought up in the restaurant trade by her father Charles Preca. Together with her sister, Roberta, she plied her trade from a very young age and formed part of the family team running the ever popular Tal-Familja restaurant in Marsascala. However, opening Palazzo Preca in 2012 has allowed Ramona to put a personal stamp on this delightful eatery in the heart of Valletta.
The actual building housing the restaurant is a 16th century palazzo that is overflowing with character. Located half-way down Strait Street in Valletta, a historic street with a chequered history, the elegant edifice has been delightfully converted into a food lover's paradise. Palazzo Preca is all about creating the right atmosphere, some genuinely delicious and innovative food, coupled with an attentive yet unobtrusive service that is sure to have you thinking about your dining experience long after you've left the house.
Ramona's menu is inspired by a mix of Maltese/Mediterranean specialities together with innovative International cuisine. Maltese options include the presence of Fenek Moqli (Fried Rabbit), Haruf il-Forn (Roasted Lamb) and Aljotta (a traditional Maltese fish soup). However, Palazzo Preca is mostly renowned for its fresh fish and shellfish options which range from mouth-watering seafood starter options to lobster, salmon, shellfish platters and the freshest catch of the day (check-out the chalk board). A variety of other delicious pasta and meat options are available for non-fish lovers. In each case, a house speciality 'a la Preca' or 'a la Ramona' is available and well worth a try...
For all you love-birds out there, make sure not to miss the incredibly romantic 'Candlelit Wednesdays' when the whole place takes a truly magical feel. Followed by a walk along the historic and evocative streets of Valletta, this is one evening that will remain imprinted in your memory.
Palazzo Preca is open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, and on Sundays for lunch only. Bookings are to be confirmed by phone.
