Sliema

Sliema is a place to be, ask anybody and they will confirm. Knowing its origins as a summer residence during the British Occupancy, with several Victorian houses running all around the coastline, Sliema very quickly grew into a residential area and later into probably the trendiest commercial area in Malta. You would be lucky to spot one of the few remaining Victorian houses, however, since they have mostly disappeared, to be replaced by up-market, high-rise residential apartments.

Sliema is popular with the Maltese, who will often choose one of its many café's or restaurants for business or social meetings or for shopping for well-known brands. It is actually a daily routine to see the cross-generation community strolling along 'the front' dropping in a private lido during the day, relaxing in a café during the late afternoon and feasting in one of the many restaurants in Sliema throughout the evening.

Tourists love it too. Here is the opportunity to walk out of a massive, old church into a cool shopping complex lying just next door; to sit in the sun under palm-trees admiring a gorgeous view of Valletta and Manoel island lying across Marsamxett Harbour; to take a walk along the long Sliema Promenade all the way to St Julians, admiring open sea-views all the way; to take a swim in the deep, crystal clear waters at one of its rocky beaches...Sliema is simply a place for enjoyment!
